Wetzlar (ERF). The honorary supervisory board of ERF Medien e. V. in Germany (Wetzlar) has a new chairman. On May 2nd, members of the ERF Association elected a 55-year old economist, Prof. Dr. Jürgen von Hagen (Bad Honnef) to succeed retired Pastor Bernd Bierbaum (Bremen). Pastor Bierbaum, who is 67 years old, chose not to be a candidate because of age. Pastor Bierbaum has been a member of the ERF Association since 1983. In 2001 he became a member of the governing board, which changed to a supervisory board in 2007. That same year, Pastor Bierbaum became its chairman. Pastor Bierbaum was the pastor of the Epiphanias Lutheran Church in Bremen for 40 years until 2008, and served as chairman of the Protestant Evangelical Alliance in Bremen for 19 years until January, 2010.
His successor as chairman of the supervisory board has been a professor of economics at the University in Bonn since 1996. From 1996-2005 he was the Director of the Center for European Integration Research. In addition, since 2009 Professor von Hagen has been the prorector of the University in Bonn. Prof. von Hagen was born in Iserlohn, finished his secondary education in 1975, and began his studies in economics and social sciences at the University in Dortmund, and political science and economics at the University in Bonn, where he received his diploma in political economics in 1981. In 1986 he received his doctorate in political economics in Bonn. Following a teaching career at Indiana University and at the University in Mannheim, he returned to the University in Bonn in 1996.
Prof. von Hagen has received international acclaim through his work on European financial policy and monetary policy. According to the “Handelsblatt”, he was one of the top 20 German-speaking economists in 2008. In addition to his many publications in international professional journals, he has also contributed to many books. He is the author or editor of over 30 books and anthologies. Since 2003 he has been the editor of the professional journal named European Economic Review. He has served as a consultant for the International Monetary Fund, the Weltbank, the European Commission, the European Zentralbank, the German Bundesbank, as well as for the German government and other governments as well.
Prof. von Hagen and his wife Dr. Ilse von Hagen became believers in Christ in the USA. They are members of the Freie Evangelische Gemeinde in Bonn, where Prof. von Hagen is also part of the leadership. In addition, he occasionally preaches in several other churches.
The Director of the Amt für missionarische Dienste der Evangelischen Kirche von Westfalen, Pastor Birgit Winterhoff (Dortmund), also chose not to be a candidate for re-election as vice chairman of the supervisory board because of health reasons. She is also the chairman of the German branch of the Coalition for Evangelism/Lausanne Movement. Members of the ERF Association also elected retired Pastor Bärbel Wilde (Lüdenscheid) and Pastor Andreas Schröder (Bremen) as new members of the supervisory board.
